Music: "When You Say Nothing At All"
An Ode To Aubrey
We have lost our good friend Aubrey Roberts
and the world is a much sadder place.
For gone is his laugh and his humour
and the smile on his time roughened face.
We had met quite late in our lifetime
when he came to play cards with our club.
And it soon became very apparent
he had not learned his bridge in a pub.
Aubrey served several years in Korea
where many young men died for naught.
When finally released from the army
he returned to his home in Connaught.
Aubrey worked many years as a miner
then retired to work in his yard.
But his health was already failing
so he just couldn’t work very hard.
He continued to be bright and happy
didn’t lose the bright gleam of the eye.
Still joked and spread humour around him
when doctors all said he would die.
So gone is our friend Aubrey Roberts
and the world is a much sadder place.
But the memory he left far behind him
is of a cheerful and bright happy face.

God knows how much we miss you.
Plus all the tears we’ve cried,
our broken heart’s were with you
the day you left our side.
Death leaves a heartache
no one can heal,
but love leaves a memory
no one can steal.
