Last year our Granddaughter came up for a holiday
And she brought the kids to visit us that day
We were all out talking in the yard
I gave her a birthday gift and forgot the card
She said Grandma it doesn't matter anyway
You can send me the card on my 21st birthday
I think that its the most important one
Oh you know next year that I'll be 21.

Chorus:
Oh 21 is a good age so they say
I'll be 21 on my next birthday
I think that its the most important one
Oh we'll have a party when I reach 21.

Dad didn't want to come on this holiday
But I said for once I'm having my own way
I came up North to visit my folks and friends
And no one knew that night her life would end.

Chorus:
Oh she was so happy and so gay
And I treasured every moment of that day
I guess we'll never know the reason why
Oh Cindy you were much too young to die

Cindy lost her life today
In an accident just down the highway
She was on her way to a party with a friend
She didn't know it would be the end.

Oh 21 is a good age, so they say
I'll be 21 on my next birthday
It's an age for going to parties and having fun
Oh we'll have a party when I reach 21.

So I'm bringing you your card today
To that plot where your sleeping neath the clay
Oh your missing all the parties and the fun
And now you'll always stay just 21

Oh 21 is a good age, so they say
I'll be 21 on my next birthday
It's an age for going to parties and having fun
Oh I wish I could stay just 21.
